Architect needed - pro-bono services to help with an Oregon Way-endorsed project seeking a $10M Federal Grant

The Port Orford Ocean Resource Team (POORT) - a group of commercial fisherman - is applying for a NIST (DOC) grant for the implementation of the first underwater safe haven called a marine reserve in the State of Oregon. The project group is seeking an architect to provide pro bono sketches that are needed for the initial grant.

More details are listed below. The group's Letter of Intent is due on June 25th, so this opportunity will expire very soon.

*Details of the Project*

*Creation of a "green" Port, designed to exceed minimum LEED certification requirements. The new Port complex will integrate solar electric and solar thermal systems, and combine net-zero design principles. It will also incorporate low or no flow plumbing; site stormwater in landscaping, parking, and the integration of eco-roofs. The Port complex will include: a marine field station and wet lab for researchers studying Oregon's nearshore and the nearby marine reserve, dormitory and office space for visiting researchers, educational facilities, and state-of-the-art facilities for the live fish processing;

*Renovation of an existing small visitor's center at Battle Rock State Park, to include a green marine interpretive center. The interpretive center will support exhibits, signage and tools to educate visitors about the marine ecosystem, land-sea connection, and the marine reserve, including enforcement and monitoring. The Marine Reserve is dramatically visible from the site.

*Achievement of a minimum LEED NC or LEED EB certifcation for all buildings that undergo major renovations and a goal of pursuing LEED-EBOM certification for the complex.

*Development of best practices in Port operations and training in C2 maintenance, operation, and implementation of green buildings.

The group is looking for the design of a marine science research field station on land owned by the Port of Port Orford. Approximate size: 5,000 ft. In prior grant documents, when elements of the field station were included in two different buildings, each of the buildings was described as follows:

The largest of these is the Fishery Building, which will be located on the existing footprint of the Cannery Building, which is in sever disrepair. 14,469 square feet, with one floor. It will be used primarily for live fish tanks by Nor Cal Seafoods.

The second separate building, the Pacific Building, will be located nearby on currently undeveloped land. 5,362 square feet, two stories. Half of the first floor to the east, near an existing paved parking area will house a retail business, Griff's Restaurant.
